It's always interesting to look back at the different versions of a design project. We have been working on a beach house design for about six months now. It's a departure from anything we have done in the past. The client has an extreme sensitivity to chemicals and molds. The challenge was to create a home that contains no wood or gypsum materials. Easy right? Well it has proven to be a fun challenge finding and using common materials for a completely different application. We are moving into construction documents now and will post more as we get into detailing.
The images below are the three versions we moved through. The first is an all in, everything included, no holds barred. The second is an extreme value engineered version. Just the essentials. The third is a compromise of the two. Never before have I seen such extremes meet in the middle with one of our projects.
We hope to be under construction later this year. It's a great client and a fun opportunity to get our common thinking turned on it's head. Look for more to come later this year.
